Atlanta Summer Cocktail Guide
Before you knock off work a little early, head to the lake and kick back on the dock, arm yourself with two things: sunscreen and the goods to mix up a proper summer cocktail. We asked four local spots for their advice on how to ride out the heat wave with a liquid combination that will cool you down, but still pack a punch.
Professors’ Speculation by Proof and Provision
1.5 oz Riverboat Rye whiskey
1.5 oz Swedish Punsch
.75 oz grapefruit juice
Combine all ingredients in shaker tin over ice. Shake vigorously. Pour over ice cubes in a chilled glass.
Saratoga by The Family Dog
1 oz High West Double Rye
1 oz Carpano Antico Formula Vermouth
1 oz Brandy
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
Combine the first three ingredients over ice and stir to chill. Strain into cocktail glass. Top with bitters and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.
Berliner Palmer by Hop City Craft Beer & Wine
1 part Bayrischer Banhof Berlinerweisse
1 part unsweetened tea
Splash of simple syrup (sugar-water)
Pour the Berlinerweisse and simple syrup into a glass over ice. Top with unsweetened tea and garnish with a lemon twist.
Cathead Cucumber Cooler by Deckards
1.5 oz Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka
1 large pinch fresh mint
¼ fresh lime
2 medium cucumber slices
.5 oz lemon juice
.5 oz agave nectar
Splash of Sprite
Muddle the mint, cucumber and lime in a cocktail shaker. Add ice, vodka, lemon juice, agave nectar and Sprite. Give it a quick shake and pour into a 12 oz rocks glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
